Axios - for Ensemble

For flute, clarinet, piano, violin, viola and cello

'Axios' was originally written to accompany 'Vortex Temporum' by Gérard Grisey, which also makes use of several quarter tones on the piano. If this piece is played in concert with Vortex Temporum, all 4 quarter tones on the piano may be left as they are for both pieces.

'Axios' is comprised of two types of material: material based on ancient Greek scales and material based on the Greek text from revelation 4:11 ("Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things..."). The piece is essentially a song of praise. However instead of the text being sung by a typical human voice, it is the ensemble, the instruments, the complexity of sound colours that are singing in worship, as if it were the created acoustic world testifying via its unusual and intricate beauty to the glory of God.

Meolam Ad Olam - for Orchestra

For Orchestra

'Meowlam-Ad-Owlam' (From Everlasting to Everlasting) is an orchestral study on transitions between micro and macro musical structures. The piece is based on the stretching and compression of tempo, using the manipulation of time as a means of creating new musical material. The entire piece is also conceptualized as one steady structural evolution from beginning to end, as if it were a tiny fragment of a structural musical evolution that continues infinitely into both the past and future.
